I want to put a password on my wireless network?

I want to put a password on my wireless network because some idiot nearby is stealing a connection from me. There's no password on it now and I log on to 192.168.1.1 and it's asking for a username and password and won't let me in with just my SSID. Can anyone help me please? It's a netgear router.
