Xbox wireless adapter ayye?

when i put my adapter in, it flashes a red light for the tiniest bit, and then nothing... i was wondering if its broken or just something wrong with my xbox or something, cause i did put it in and it was working but as soon as i went to connect to xbox live it just stopped working
