Good wireless router?

Grandfather has a dvd player with the option to stream netflix, but the wireless router is at the opposite end of the house and the signal won't reach his room. Not a huge house or anything, but there's a lot of wall interference. The router that's there sucks horribly. It's the one AT&T supplied. Any recommendations? What's a good range to look for? It would need to be mac compatible.
