Bad latency when playing online games?

Me and my boyfriend play online games like WoW and Starcraft 2, however it's always me that gets a bad connection even though we are both running off the same internet. I have a newer and more advanced laptop that has been fine on other wireless networks but for some reason it's always me that gets bad latency. So I just want to know if anyone has any idea why it is always my laptop that suffers and my bfs is always running absolutely fine with no lag at all.
